Security forces in Afghanistan have retaken the northern city of Kunduz from Taliban militants on Wednesday. A security official said troops have successfully forced the rebel group out of the city and back to their former bases. He added that the Taliban suffered huge casualties following days of intense fighting.
The government's all-out assault against the insurgents erupted after the group made advances to take over provincial capitals, including neighboring Baghlan. Troops managed to repel the new wave of attacks with support from the United States military.
