To Europe where Germany hosted Northern Ireland in World Cup qualifying. The last time these two met was at Euro 2016 when world champs Germany won 1-0.

And after an impressive 3-0 beating of the Czech republic on Saturday, Joachim Loew's side were expected to remain perfect in Group C and two quick goals would see to that.

German captain Manuel Neuer earning his 74th cap this match. The hosts go to work right away and in the 13th minute, Mesut Ozil is going to find Thomas Mueller, who picks out Julian Draxler and he fires a low shot past Michael McGovern from the edge of the area. 1-0 Germany.

Die Mannschaft double their lead four minutes later, Mats Hummels gets the first touch on this cross, sending it towards Sami Khedira who flicks it into the net. The Juventus midfielder gets his first goal since the 7-1 destruction of Brazil at the 2014 World Cup.

Northern Ireland threaten occasionally on the counter-attack, butthis effort from Jamie Ward is easily collected by Neuer.

Still in the first half, Mueller manages to keep this ball in play to find Mario Goetze and the Dortmund man tips it in. But referee waves it off saying the ball had actually gone out and the replay vindicates his call.

Northern Ireland hunker down on defence after the break and the game would go on to end 2-0 Germany.

"Yes, we have six points out of these two games and we have not conceded any goals which is of course positive. I think today's win was relatively effortless for us," said Joachim Loew, Germany coach.

"We scored two goals quickly and afterwards then probably eased off a bit which is quite logical. But it was of course not as spectacular as the game against the Czech Republic, because our opponents played even more defensively in what could be called a 'nine plus one system'."

Also on Tuesday, England goalkeeper Joe Hart came up big in salvaging a tepid 0-0 for the Three Lions against Slovenia. Scotland lost 3-0 at Slovakia, Robert Lewandowski snatched a last-gasp winner for Poland against Armenia, Montenegro stunned Denmark 1-0, and the Czech Republic drew with Azerbaijan.
