In Major League Baseball playoffs, the LA Dodgers were facing elimination at home to the Washington Nationals who came into Dodgers stadium with a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five NLDS. LA would turn to Clayton Kershaw as the there-time CY Young Award winner started on the mound after only three days rest, but his good work would be undone late, setting the stage for Chase Utley to play the hero.

Rough start for Kershaw as Daniel Murphy hits an RBI single to right field to give Washington a 1-0 lead. But in the bottom of the first inning, Adrian Gonzalez takes Joe Ross deep to right center field. That's a two run homer that gives LA a 2-1 lead.

Washington tie it up, but in the top of the third, Justin Turner finds some space in left center which brings home a run to make it 3-2 Dodgers. LA make it 5-2 and in the top of the sixth, Kershaw gets his tenth strikeout to end the inning.

But an exhausted Kershaw would load the bases in the seventh and he's replaced by Pedro Baez who hits Jayson Werth with his first and only pitch to make it 5-3 Dodgers. Then Murphy hits a single to center field off Luis Avilan that brings in two runs and ties it up at five. And Kershaw can only sit in the dugout as his season slips away.

But in the bottom of the eighth, Utley smacks a single to right center and the winning run comes around to score. The Dodgers hold on to win 6-5 to force Game Five. One other game on the night in which the Chicago Cubs scored four runs in the ninth to beat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 to win their series 3-1.
