The property market in China continues to be a hot topic as prices rise in major cities. Now authorities say they will investigate cases of rumor-spreading when it comes to government policy over the property market.

China's Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development is calling for strict rules over the property market in order to protect the rights of home-buyers. Police in the cities of Hangzhou and Shenzhen have detained two property agents for spreading rumors of a new government regulation.

Authorities say this sparked a rash of divorces and a rush to buy new homes. The ministry has urged people to fight against the spreading of these sorts of rumors, calling on people to instead promote a stable real estate market.
