The best player on the planet, Novak Djokovic, was in action in the third round on Thursday. The super Serb is seeking his fourth title at the tournament -- but looking to stop the 12 time grand slam winner -- Canadian qualifier Vasek Pospisil. A tall order for the underdog, but after upsetting the in-form Grigor Dimitrov in his previous match, his confidence was running high.

And that self belief helps, sort of, as Pospisil breaks Djokovic with a blistering return, but is still down a break at 4-2.

Novak now has set point, and he's going to come to the net behind a forehand approach shot, and then deliver a low volley to the corner to take it 6-4.

Djoker would break early in the second, and show off his touch with this sneaky drop shot that leaves the Canadian no chance.

And then on match point, the Serb is going to close it out with a forehand down the line. 6-4 in the second, and another good day at the office for the top seed, who will face Mischa Zverev in the quarter finals.

"I was very pleased with the way I have played from the first to last point. I don't think I have dropped my level at all. Only one game I dropped my serve in the first set on 4-1, other than that I was very pleased with the performance," Novak Djokovicaid.

And the second seed was also on court as Andy Murray in the black shirt took on France's Lucas Pouille, and the forehand on the line gives the Scot the first set 6-1.

Pouille starts the second well, winning this epic rally that you only get to see the end of, but trust me it was good.

But that only slows Andy down a bit, and he now has match point. Check out this stretch as he lunges for the forehand and an incredible winner. The world number two has been playing out of his shoes lately, if that's a thing. He'll face David Goffin in the quarters.

Now we've got third seeded Stan Wawrinka in the near court, up against the wily Gilles Simon of France. And the Swiss known to some as Stuckey takes this point his sublime one handed backhand. A piece of art that shot.

But after trailing 3-1 to start the set, Simon comes back thanks to shots like this, and goes on to take it 6-4.

And everything seems to be going right for Simon in the second, as his backhand clips the net to elude Wawrinka and bounce in. A little luck never hurts.

Match point now for Simon, and the US Open champion dumps it into the net. Simon wins the frame 6-4 to complete a huge straight sets upset for the veteran, who is moving on to face Jack Sock in the quarter-finals.

That's because Sock took down Milos Raonic in three sets, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga got past dangerous German Alexander Zverev in three, while Alexander's older brother Mischa continued his suprising run by beating Marcel Granollers.
