Chinese inv't in Bangladesh reaches 56.8 mln USD in 2015

Bangladesh is one of China's key partners in South Asia. China is now the largest import source of Bangladesh while the country's exports to China are also growing.

Bangladesh's imports from China stood at 7.19 billion US dollars from July 2015 to March of this year. Exports to China reached 558 million dollars during the same period. Chinese imports from Bangladesh include frozen foods, leather and agricultural products and woven garments.

Bangladesh takes an open attitude towards Chinese investors. Chinese investment in Bangladesh reached 56.8 million dollars in 2015. Pharmaceuticals and ship building are the top investment targets. The two countries are eyeing more infrastructure construction under the Belt and Road initiative.

China also works with Bangladesh to promote the construction of an economic corridor connecting Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar.

Bangladesh has maintained more than 6 percent GDP growth during the last 15 years and its economy is much stronger than in the past. Bangladesh has promised to improve its investment environment to attract more Chinese investors.
