Chinese firms have stepped up their investment overseas. Data from China's Ministry of Commerce shows outbound investment rose 57 percent to 16.2 billion US dollars.

And in the first nine months this year, non-financial outbound direct investment amounted to 134 billion US dollars. On the other hand, foreign investment in China maintained its momentum. In the first nine months, foreign investment increased 4.2 percent.

And the number of newly-registered foreign companies climbed 12.2 percent in this period.  The service sector proved to be attractive, as foreign capital flowed in at a faster pace. That's in line with China's transition to a services-driven economy.
