Dubbed a 'defining moment' for relations between China and the Philippines by President Duterte, the Philippine media have been quite positive in their previews. The country's television network ABS-CBN says the visit can boost the country's tourism industry, as the government looks at ways to draw more foreign visitors in.

The country's leading business publication, Business World Online says his visit can extend the hand of friendship between the two countries, with about 400 business leaders in Duterte's travelling party.

Meanwhile, the Philippine newspaper " The Inquirer" quoted the foreign affairs secretary, Perfecto Yasay, who said the two countries have to rebuild their levels of trust and confidence, which were eroded during the past administration.
