In Libya, another anti-ISIL campaign is going on. Libyan forces recaptured five additional buildings from the extremist group in a neighbourhood of Sirte city.

Troops and tanks were seen Friday moving freely in the newly recaptured areas of the northern coastal city.

ISIL militants are now surrounded  in an area of less than one-kilometre square after a six-month campaign that brought hundreds of US airstrikes.

Sheltering in tunnels, improvised bunkers and rooms fortified by sand-filled fridges, the extremists are holding out with snipers, booby-traps and car bombs against pro-government forces.

The fall of Sirte would mean the loss of the militant organization's main stronghold outside Iraq.
