NHL: Canadiens extend winning streak to four games

10-25-2016 15:55 BJT

To the ice for hockey and the Montreal Canadiens are off to a great start in the new NHL season. The Habs were at home to the Philadelphia Flyers looking to extend their winning streak to four games.

Last Year Montreal also began well, but things came crashing down once their starting goaltender, Carey Price, was lost to injury. But with the former Vezina and Hart trophy winner healthy again, the Habs are on a roll.

And there's the man himself as Price gets in a bit more stretching before the opening face off.

After a scoreless first period, the Canadiens will get on the board just 28 seconds into the second on this blast from Shea Weber. The defenceman with the hardest shot in the game actually broke Brayden Schenn's stick to deflect past Steve Mason and make it 1-0 Montreal. You can clearly see the stick snap on this replay and that's Weber's second goal of the season.

But with eight minutes left in the second period, the Flyers are going to tie it up. The puck is worked back out to Claude Giroux who sends it on net and Jakub Voracek tips it past Price with a tidy redirection and it's a 1-1 game.

Less than seven minutes to play in the third period and the Habs are on a power play. They win the face off and it's passed back to Brendan Gallagher who drills a slapshot that finds the net for his team leading fourth goal of the season and it's 2-1 Montreal.

With time winding down, the Flyers pull their goalie for the extra attacker and Price comes up with a huge save on Shane Gostisbhere to preserve the Habs lead.

The Candiens work it out of the zone and Alexander Radulov is going to find the empty net as Montreal wins it 3-1 to remain the only unbeaten team in regulation this season.

Only one other game on Monday night in which the Calgary Flames beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in a shootout thanks to Kris Versteeg's winner.
