WTA Finals: World No. 1 clinches semi-final berth with win

In the WTA Finals, World Number one Angelique Kerber looking to cap off her sensational year, with another triumph. The German capturing two majors, as well as wrestling the top ranking from Serena Williams.

And she already assured herself a place in the semi-finals of the year-ending event, but could prevent Madison Keys from making the last four with a victory over the American.

We pick things up on serve at 2-all in the opener, the two exchanging groundstrokes, before Keys tries a simple drop shot, but Kerber is too quick, and angles it home for a winner, as she breaks.

The American was her own worst enemy in the opening set -- exhibit A -- this smash attempt at the net, and her miscue gives Kerber the frame 6-3.

But Keys would get into a groove in the second, this forehand winner gives her an early break and a 2-love lead.

The left-handed Kerber though would rattle off six of the next seven games to prevail in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, and also deny Keys a place in semi-finals.

CIBULKOVA TOPS HALEP 6-3, 7-6

Also in group A was Dominka Cibulkova serving to Simona Halep, with Keys losing, the winner of this contest would make the semis, and it is Cibulkova that gets the upperhand, taking the opening set 6-3.

The second set would need a tiebreak, and this is the opening point of the extra-session. The pair wage in a ridiculous rally that lasts more than twenty shots Halep forces the Slovakian to retreat with a lob, but Cibulkova hits a forehand, that the Romanian barely returns over the net for a point. Both girls offer a smile after their efforts.

Unfortunately for Halep, she would not be able to keep the ball in play a few points later, hitting it wide, handing Cibulkova the match 6-3, 7-6. The Slovakian is now through to the semi-finals.
