Andy Murray continues in his quest for the world number one ranking. The Scot needs to win this week in Vienna, plus the year-ending event on the ATP tour, plus hope that Novak Djokovic doesn't get to the semis in the French capital. And the world number two, would get a scare in that quest as he battled Gilles Simon.
Murray was in a heap of trouble in the opener -- trailing 4-1, and this serve is out -- but it hits spectator. The Scot was extremely concerned and went over to check on the lady. She seems more embarrassed than hurt -- and was no worse for wear.
The Wimbledon champ would go on to lose the opening set, but came back to win the second and force a decider -- Simon facing a break point was not eager to drop another frame, and makes a stunning save off a drop shot.
But the Scot would get a break in that game, and rattled off the next four games in succession thanks to Simon's error-plagued groundstrokes. Murray prevails in three-sets, and moves onto the quarter-finals and keeps his chances of becoming number one alive.
