In 2005, the leaders of Communist Party of China and the Kuomintang Party met for the first time in over six decades in Beijing. The General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee at the time, Hu Jintao met Lien Chan, the leader of the Kuomingtang.

In 2008, when the Kuomintang returned to power in Taiwan, its chairman Wu Poh-hsiung visited Beijing. Since then, many high-level meetings have been convened on the One-China principle, five of which involved the top leaders from both sides.

The most recent one was in Singapore in November of last year, when Xi Jinping and Ma Ying-jeou shook hands during a historic meeting.
