Beijing Orienteering Week: Runesson wins men's division, Alm takes women's title

Five different classifications of competition are being held in the Chinese capital -- and that includes the Park World Tour. Many of the top orienteers from across the globe are in Beijing for the event.

As part of the Beijing orienteering week, the 2016 Park World Tour at the Beijing Botanical Garden. Half of the top 100 ranking orienteers would make their way to China for the competition. In orienteering, participants need to find certain checkpoints according to the map given to them.

From there, they use their compasses and plan the most suituable route. The competitor that finds each stop, according to the map, and in the shortest time is the winner. The event was divided into nine groups, with distances ranging from 1.1 kilometers to 2.6 kilometers, and eight to 19 checkpoints. with Johan Runesson of Sweden would take the men's elite group title, and Dane Maja Alm winning the women's division.
