Xi put forward a six-point proposal, stressing the 1992 Consensus as the political foundation for cross-strait ties. The proposal also says the Chinese mainland will stand by the One-China policy. Xi went on to say the mainland firmly opposes "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces and their activities.
Hung Shoo-chu said China's Communist Party and the Kuomingtang should strengthen cross-strait communication, expand trade and enhance people-to-people exchange.
