South Korean shares close at seven-week low on political uncertainty

11-01-2016 01:27 BJT

South Korean shares closed at a seven-week low Monday as investors worry about the country's political crisis.

The Kospi ended down 0.6 percent at 2008.19 points. That was its lowest level since September 13th. The South Korean won also dipped in early trade, but managed to pare its losses later as the US dollar weakened in global markets.

Analysts say external uncertainties including the U.S. presidential election, have also intensified market volatility.
