The Long March-5, the largest and most powerful carrier rocket China has ever built, will set off on its maiden flight in the next few days. Before the launch, CCTV's Ge Yunfei visited the launch center in China’s southern Hainan province and spoke to launch commander, Hu Xudong.

Ge: "What’s the most challenging part of your job?"

Hu: "The most difficult part is that the Long March-5 is a new and complicated rocket. It adopted lots of new technologies, which presents a big coordination problem. It’s hard to make 21 men march without any missteps, not to mention 21 complex systems. But we have our own solutions, with the help of this command system and the detailed rulebook."

"This rocket used hundreds of new technologies, like the liquid propellant engine and boosting support technology. So that the latest rockets, like the Long March 6, 7 and 8 in the near future, are all derivatives of the Long March-5. So with so many new technologies, the launch comes with many risks. But if its maiden flight is successful, it’ll be a giant leap for China’s rocket development."
