13 confirmed dead in SW China mine blast

Thirteen miners have been confirmed dead after the explosion at a coal mine in southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality on Monday morning.

The explosion took place at the Jinshangou Coal Mine, in Yongchuan District. According to local authorities, 35 miners were working in the shaft, two of whom escaped. The fate of the other 20 is unknown.

Rescue operations and an investigation are underway.
