Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the cancellation of a police rifle deal with the United States. This comes after U.S. senatorial aides said last month that Washington was halting the sale because of concerns about human rights violations.

In a speech on Monday, Duterte said the country will not insist on buying arms from the United States, and that it was possible to obtain them from elsewhere.

As part of Duterte’s drug crackdown, more than 2,300 people in the Philippines have been killed in police operations or by suspected vigilantes.
