China has changed dramatically in the years since many of these films were made. They now act as a narrative of that journey for audiences around the world.

Here at this year's Festival of Chinese Cinema, a total of 7 Chinese films will be screened including "Wolf Totem", "The Dead End" and "Xuan Zang".

The event is also an echo to a Russian themed film festival held in Beijing and Xi'an earlier in June. Jackie Chan's action comedy Skiptrace has been chosen as the opening film.

"This festival aims to provide a bridge between the people of the two countries through the universal language of cinema," Jackie Chan said.

"I'm eager to know more about China and its people, and I hope to see more events like this," said a local resident.

The festival runs until November 27th in Moscow and Rostov.
