CPI rises 2.1%, PPI up 1.2% in October

China has released October’s consumer price index (CPI) and producer price index (PPI). The CPI, a main gauge of inflation, grew 2.1 percent year on year in October, up from September’s 1.9 percent. The October data ends previous drops in the past five months starting from 2.3 percent in April, when the CPI hit its highest level since July 2014.

The price of vegetables rose 13 percent year on year in October, compared with 7.5 percent in September. For fruit, the rise was 6 percent, compared with 6.7 percent in September.

The producer price index, or PPI, which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, continued its growth by rising 1.2 percent year on year in October. Official data shows that is the highest in 55 months.
