The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and five other departments have released a plan to develop China’s medical sector until 2020. The aim is to enhance the sector’s ability to innovate, to raise product quality.

The plan says industry revenue should grow at about 10 percent every year. Investment in research and development should be the equivalent of no less than 2 percent of the industry’s revenue.

The government and the private sector will fund the establishment of medicine and medical instrument manufacturing innovation centers. And the quality of medicine and medical instruments should follow higher standards.

The sector’s energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions should all drop below 2015 levels.
