In the United States, multiple protests are ongoing after Donald Trump’s presidential win. Thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of Manhattan in New York on Wednesday night. And more protests are sprouting in cities across the country, including Boston, Seattle and Chicago.
In downtown Chicago, a protest was organized in the wake of election results on Tuesday November 8. The organizers called it an emergency protest. It was organized by Answer Chicago. They call themselves anti-racist and anti-war, a social justice coalition with organizing centers in cities and towns across the country.
They say that they are protesting against Trump. They say he does not represent them. They are also protesting against racism, they are chanting slogans like “Refugees are welcome here!,” “Muslims are welcome here,” “No more racist USA!”
The protest was called for on Facebook earlier on Wednesday 15,000 people said they were interested in going, and 9,000 people were going. And the organizers say they want to resist the outcome.
Tuesday’s election result stunned many American voters who were feeling really aghast and in shock and in disbelief at the success of the candidate who many of them say does not represent them and they consider him even offensive and even dangerous.
The protesters called Trump vile and sexist, which is in stark contrast to the conscitolitary tone of the confession speech given earlier by Hillary Clinton, and President Obama’s promise to do everything to ensure a smooth transition to a Trump presidency.
There are a few pro-Trump supporters by the Trump Tower, but they are a lot less numerous than the anti-Trump supporters on this side. And the Answer Coalition is also calling for protests on January 20, 2017, which is Inauguration Day, the day President Elect Trump will be sworn in as the next president of the United States.
