Vietnam local media say the country is scrapping plans to build two nuclear power plants over soaring costs and mounting safety concerns.
The plants were slated to have a capacity of 4-thousand megawatts, and were being developed with assistance from a Japanese consortium. However, the proposed costs for both plants have doubled since 2011's Fukushima Nuclear disaster. Japanese media report if the project is shelved, it will be a major blow to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's nuclear power exporting strategy.
