A K-pop music video director has been arrested in connection with the influence-peddling scandal rocking South Korea. Cha Eun-taek is one of the key figures in the political uproar involving Choi Soon-sil, a close confidant of President Park Geun-hye.
Cha is allegedly involved in managing the Mir Foundation with Choi. The foundation is a non-profit organization. Conglomerates are said to have been forced to raise funds for its establishment in October 2015. Cha also allegedly meddled in state-led projects and exerted undue influence in the culture sector. He is accused of abusing his close ties with the president along with Choi.
Choi is also accused of interfering in security and economic policies. One of Cha’s close associates is Song Sung-gak, the former chief of the state-run Korea Creative Content Agency. Song was arrested late Monday night on suspicion he pressured a medium-sized ad company to hand over its shares to a third party.
