Chinese ambassador to the US, Cui Tiankai, says Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is the choice of the American people, and relations between the two countries will continue as mutual interests and cooperation grow. Cui made the remarks during a CNN interview after Trump's victory in the 2016 US presidential election.

"Our bilateral relations are based on and defined by growing common interests and mutual needs. The two countries are cooperating with each other in so many areas. including... so many international issues. These common interest will determine future relations," he said.

Cui also said climate change is a global challenge for which all countries are responsible. Regarding Trump's isolationist remarks and President Barack Obama's Pivot to Asia proposal, Cui said the Asia-Pacific is the most economically-dynamic region in the world. He added that China's willing to cooperate with the US to maintain stability in this area.
