To Marrakech in Morocco, the major climate change conference known as COP22 is underway, under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Ratification of the Paris Agreement on climate change will make this a significant week ahead at the event.

We are heading into the crucial section of COP22. The high level segment. Some 50 or so heads of state will be here to add their weight and support to this conference. Many of those leaders will be from Africa.

The Continent will be a key focal point for all those here. And a little earlier I spoke to Nick Nutgall, spokesperson for the United Nations Framework convention for climate change to get his thoughts on what we can expect to see in the coming days.

Nutgall said, "I think you are going to see a great deal of networking going on. This is a Cop where we have gone through Paris, we have the Paris agreement now comes the point where they have to implement what is called their national contributions their national climate action plans. How are they going to do it."

"And we are seeing countries like Morocco for instance already exporting in a sense their know-how for renewable energy from here to neighbouring countries and countries not far away like Djibouti and Senegal. Countries like Kenya are already working with neighbouring countries to. So I think you are going to see a lot of networking where the expertise in one place will start being transferred to others."

"But I think the big question of course is finance and I think behind all that, you will see some announcements next week which will really underline that people are stepping up to the plate to provide some crucial funding needed for a continent like Africa."

Patricia Espinosa, the UNFCCC Executive secretary has stressed that more nations need to show greater urgency as they look to agree on this rulebook, the fine print in order to implement this Paris agreement.
