The 11th Shanghai Biennale is now underway at the city's Power Station of Art. As the most influential contemporary art exhibition, the event has lured in huge crowds of visitors since its opening on Saturday.

Themed "Why Not Ask Again? Arguments, Counter-arguments and Stories", the Shanghai Biennale occupy the first three floors of Power Station of Art, exhibiting works by 92 international artists and artist groups from 40 countries worldwide, including 27 Chinese artists.

This edition of the art fair has had lines of visitors queueing before the ticket office.

"There were more than 5,000 visitors yesterday. And we are expecting more today. So we have opened several more ticket windows so that visitors won't wait too long," said Zhang Lili from Power Station of Art.

At the exhibition hall, artist Lee Mingwei's installment "Our Labyrinth" is of particular interest to visitors. The installment sees a dancer gracefully move piles of rice around the space with a broom, mounting the grains into concentric shapes.

On the second floor, many are queueing to see "The Great Chain of Being - Planet Trilogy", which is one of the largest installments featured at the event.

"It may take almost two hours standing in line. But I think it totally worth it."

Thematic exhibitions aside, the biennale also features sections such as "Terminals", "Intra-Curatorial Platform", "Theory Opera", and "51 Personae".

Initiated in 1996, the Shanghai Biennale is the most influential international contemporary art biennale with a long history in China and is one of the most important biennales in Asia.

This year's event runs through March 12th.
