A temporary medical clinic has been opened on the Jordan-Syria border. The United Nations Children's Fund, or UNICEF, says the facility is expected to treat nearly 80-thousand refugees stranded at Jordan's al-Rukban camp, half of which are children.
The refugees have been struggling in poor living conditions since June after Jordan sealed its border with Syria due to a cross-border attack by the Islamic State, ultimately cutting off the camp from aid.
UNICEF is currently working with the Jordanian government and other organizations to expand the clinic into a facility that can provide further medical treatment, food rations and other types of support.
