Chinese President Xi Jinping is paying his first state visit to the Peruvian capital, Lima. He will also attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting during his weekend stay.

President Xi said he hoped the visit would deepen cooperation between the two countries which are celebrating 45 years of diplomatic relations this year. He had an article published in a leading Peruvian newspaper on Thursday, in which he stressed the need for both countries to work together to promote world peace, stability and prosperity. This is Xi's third visit to Latin America since taking office in 2013.
