The World Health Organization has declared that Zika no longer constitutes an international emergency, but it stressed the need for a long-term effort to address the virus. The WHO is quick to note that the move does not mean the agency is downgrading the threat of the virus, but some public health experts worried that losing the "international emergency" label could slow research into the virus, which continues to cause infections.

Nearly 30 countries have reported birth defects linked to Zika, with over 2,100 cases of nervous-system malformations reported in Brazil alone. Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand continue to report cases of Zika, while Cambodia confirmed its first case of the Zika virus on Friday.
