China's army is on high alert in the border area as one of its citizens was injured by a stray bullet. Meanwhile, the Chinese foreign ministry urged all parties to exercise calm.

"China urges all parties in the conflict to exercise restraint and conduct an immediate ceasefire so as to avoid an escalation in tension, and to take concrete and effective measures to resume peace in the China-Myanmar border area," said Geng Shuang, spokesperson, Chinese Foreign Ministry.
