A suspected terrorist plot coordinated by Islamic State has been foiled in France. Authorities say seven suspected jihadists have been arrested in Strasbourg and Marseille. CCTV’s Kate Parkinson has the details.

France's interior minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, said counter terror officers had been monitoring this alleged terror cell for more than eight months.

The suspects are aged between 29 and 37 years old. And are of French, Moroccan and Afghan nationalities.

Coordinated police raids were carried out over the weekend here in the eastern city of Strasbourg and also in Marseille in the south of France.

French media, quoting security sources, are reporting the suspects had fought in Syria and were linked to the terror cell that carried out the Paris attacks last November.

It was reportedly the group’s nervousness as they awaited a weapons delivery that sparked their arrests.

The interior minister said 418 people have been arrested for suspected links to terror networks since the start of the year. Adding that the threat of terrorism has never been so high in France.

France remains in a state of emergency following last November’s terror attacks. Strasbourg has been on high alert ahead of the opening of its famous Christmas market. Local officials warn it could be suspended or cancelled if there were serious threats.
