Large numbers of people protested outside the South Korean defense ministry on Wednesday where the intelligence-sharing agreement was signed. Demonstrators were calling for an immediate halt to the deal.
"Signing the deal means that we will have to share the intelligence collected by the THAAD system with Japan. South Korea would then become the frontline of Japan's missile defense system," said Kim Jong-dae, member of South Korean National Assembly.
"This is so ridiculous. How can they sign such a deal with Japan. Those who sacrificed themselves for our country's independence are crying in their graves!" said a protester.
"The deal will only benefit Japan, not our country. This deal is all for Japan and ultimately the United States. The South Korean people do not need this deal!" said another protester.
