In Syria, rescue workers have pulled a girl from the rubble of a damaged building in eastern Aleppo. The following amateur video contains graphic images. The footage was uploaded on social media by White Helmet rescue workers on Tuesday. Additional footage from a local news agency appears to show the same girl being carried by rescue workers into the street.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 27 people have been killed in the blitz on Aleppo that started early last week. The UK-based monitor also said around 100 families tried to flee rebel-held parts of eastern Aleppo as the Syrian army advanced. However, they were forced to turn back when gunfire erupted.

The government also announced the formation of a new military unit to be composed of volunteers, government troops, and allied forces.
