2016 World Cup of Golf: Li & Wu representing China at team competition in Australia

To Australia, as the 2016 edition of the World Cup of Golf teed off earlier today at the Kingston Heath Golf Club in Melbourne. Representing China in the two-man team event are Li Haotong and Wu Ashun.

The tournament dates back to 1953, when Canadian John Jay Hopkins founded the event. It was once known as the Canada Cup, and has undergone several tweaks to its format. According to current rules, 28 countries will compete in two-man teams over four rounds of stroke play. The first and third rounds will be played as foursomes, while the second and fourth will be four-balls.

China's Li is 21 years old, and has 5 professional wins in total. In May he captured his first European Tour victory, by winning the China Open here in Beijing.

His partner Wu is 10 years older, and has 4 professional wins under his belt, including two European Tour titles.

As for the hosts, world number one Jason Day declined the chance to defend the crown he won in 2013, leaving Adam Scott to pair up with Marc Leishman.
