President Xi Jinping departed from Chile on Wednesday morning after a week-long stay in Latin America which also included visits to Ecuador and Peru.

His first stop was in Ecuador, where the two countries signed a bilateral economic trade agreement which included 11 deals in various sectors. They also discussed China's contribution to Ecuador's largest hydroelectric power station, which should be able to meet nearly a third the country's electricity needs. Its president, Rafael Correa also thanked China for its humanitarian support after the devastating earthquake in April.

President Xi then flew south to the Peruvian capital, Lima where he attended the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. He delivered a keynote speech at that, which focused on the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, or FTAAP. While in Peru, he also witnessed the signing of up to 18 agreements, which included plans to promote Chinese mining projects.

Onto Chile then, where he met with the country's president Michelle Bachelet, witnessed the signing of a dozen more cooperation agreements, and attended the opening of the China-Latin America Media Leaders' Summit.
