Taiwan-based China Airlines will absorb the routes being abandoned by TransAsia Airways, which is shutting down. The transition will last from December this year to mid-February 2017 and covers most domestic and international routes by TransAsia Airways. Authorities will provide subsidies for China Airlines if the company loses money due to the takeover.
TransAsia Airways on Tuesday said it would bow out of the aviation industry because of its worsening financial situation. The company is also based in Taiwan and had two deadly crashes in the past two years.
