The incoming United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is in China for a two-day visit. He will begin his five-year term on January 1st.

Guterres and Chinese Foreign Wang Yi held talks this morning. They exchanged ideas on issues of common concerns.

 Wang Yi welcomed Guterres to the nation, and expressed hopes of UN's more active role in promoting international cooperation. Guterres thanked China for being supportive. He also said he appreciated China's firm support of multilateral cooperation.

Guterres and Wang are scheduled to attend a joint press conference this afternoon.
