The 2017 French presidential election is scheduled to run between April 23 and May 7 next year.

According to the French constitution, presidential candidates must be French citizens over the age of 23.

Potential candidates must receive signed nominations from over 500 elected officials. These officials must be from at least 30 departments or overseas collectives.

A general vote will be held to elect the President, after the candidates are selected by an electoral college.

French presidential elections are conducted via run-off voting: if no candidate receives a majority of votes in the first round of voting, the two highest-scoring candidates arrive at a run-off.

President cannot serve more than two consecutive terms, with each is five years.
