Rescue operations at the crash site in the city of Medellin have been suspended due to heavy rains. The chartered aircraft was carrying 81 people, including Brazilian football club Chapecoense Real, when crashed on its way to city's international airport.
Authorities report at least six survivors, including a 25-year-old player. Airport officials stated the plane made an emergency call at 10 PM local time and declared it had "electrical failures."
The Brazilian team were supposed to play against Colombia's Atletico Nacional on Wednesday in the South American Cup finals. In response, the South American football confederation suspended indefinitely all of its activities and sent its solidarity to the Brazilian club.
