WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Jill Stein campaign of U.S. Green Party has filed a legal petition in the Pennsylvania state court Monday as voters filed recount requests in more than 100 precincts, according to a statement.

"The campaign expects recount requests to be filed in many more precincts in the Keystone State in the coming days," the campaign said in the online statement.

The recounts in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, which the Stein campaign has applied for on Friday, will start as soon as this week.

Stein's team is also expected to request a recount in Wisconsin no later than Wednesday.

The push for recounts in the three key battleground states that ultimately decided the outcome of the presidential election has won the backing of the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, but was bashed by the Republican President-elect Donald Trump.

Trump twitted earlier that Stein's bid was a "scam."

According to Stein's website, she intends to raise seven million U.S. dollars for recount costs, and any surplus will be used to "promote voting system reform."

She has raised 6.3 million dollars as of Monday.

Pennsylvania state law requires three voters in each precinct must submit an affidavit requesting a recount for that precinct.

As Michigan is expected to officially certify Trump's victory in the state Monday, recount needs to overturn results in all three states in order for Clinton to win the presidency.

Trump's total vote lead over Clinton in the three states is about 100,000.
