Chinese Super League club SIPG has ended their association with Sven Goran Eriksson. The 68-year-old was replaced as head coach by former Chelsea boss Andrew Villa-Boas on November 4 with a view to a different role at the Shanghai Stadium, but now the team’s hierarchy has decided to cut all ties with the ex England manager.

After arriving from Guangzhou R & F in 2014, Eriksson led the team to a runner-up finish in the CSL and qualified for the AFC Champions League in his debut season. A third-place finish last term and an appearance in the last eight of the continental competition followed in 2016, but these results were deemed not good enough by the SIPG board members and they decided to call time on him as manager.

This is the first time the 68-year-old Swede has been out of work in four years, but it is reported there are other offers in China for him to consider.
