A 35 billion US dollar mining and minerals processing complex has been inaugurated in the city of Ras Al-Khair, on Saudi Arabia's eastern coast.

It is the largest mining complex of its kind in the country. The government intends to invest heavily in speeding up the industry to diversify away from oil exports.

Projects include a 5 point 6 billion dollar phosphate complex which produces fertiliser and chemicals.
