China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and visiting Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Szijjarto, have met for talks in Beijing. They participated in the first bilateral working group on the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-backed trade route linking Central Asia and Russia to Europe. A separate sea route is set to cross the Indian Ocean.

"The special working group has been set up to deal with issues related to the " Belt and Road" initiative. This is a very good platform to put into practice specific plans for the project," said Wang Yi.

Peter Szijjarto says Hungary attaches great importance to cooperation with China. He also said the country plans to link its own development strategy with the Belt and Road initiative and expand cooperation with China in trade, investment and agriculture. Hungary is also set to introduce a new visa policy, making it easier for Chinese to travel to the country. Hungary is the first European country to sign an intergovernmental memorandum with China on this issue.
