China will impose an extra 10 percent tax on supercars and other luxury models that cost 1.3 million yuan and above. The ministry of finance says the move aims to rein in lavish spending and reduce emissions. The tax hike took effect on Thursday.

It will potentially affect the pricing for top of the line models from carmakers like BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi, as well as super high-end brands like Ferrari, Aston Martin and Rolls-Royce.
