King Vajiralongkorn will also be known as King Rama the tenth, the tenth king in the Chakri dynasty that was founded in 1782. He was designated in 1972 at the age of 20 as the successor of his father, Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The revered late king died in October at the age of 88. The new monarch's formal coronation is not expected to happen before his father's royal cremation next year.
