Iran says the US Senate's vote to extend sanctions against the Islamic Republic for another ten years violates the 2015 nuclear deal.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said it will report Congress to the committee assigned to monitor the deal's implementation.

The US Congress passed the renewal of the Iran Sanctions Act on Thursday, with members denying it would violate the agreement.

Iran's top authority, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in November threatened retaliation if the sanctions were extended.

The White House had neither pushed for an extension, nor raised serious objections. Some congressional aides expect President Barack Obama to sign it.

US President-elect Donald Trump railed against the deal during his campaign for the White House.
