39 Chinese elements officially recognized by UNESCO

With the 24 Solar Terms, 39 Chinese cultural items have now been inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Here's a full rundown of what's been included so far.

31 of these Chinese elements were inscribed on The Representative List, including:

China's Twenty-Four Solar Terms -- a centuries old calendar system based on the sun's annual motion

Chinese Zhusuan -- a mathematical calculation method using the Chinese abacus

Chinese shadow puppetry

The use of acupuncture and moxibustion as part of traditional Chinese medicine

Grand songs of the Dong ethnic group

Hua’er ballads, practiced in China's Qinghai, Gansu and Ningxia provinces

Manas -- the traditional epic poetry of China's Kyrgyz people

Seven were inscribed on The List of Intangible Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding. They are:

Hezhen Yimakan storytelling

The Uygur cultural event, Meshrep

Chinese junks and their watertight-bulkhead technology

Chinese wooden movable-type printing

Qiang New Year's festival

Chinese traditional wooden arch bridges

Li textile techniques, which include spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidery

And one cultural item, Chinese Fujian puppetry, was inscribed on UNESCO's List of Intangible Heritage on Register of Good Safeguarding Practices.
