FIFA's former head awaits a decision to see if his six-year ban from the sport will be reduced. Sepp Blatter was handed the punishment for ethics violations over an undisclosed payment given to the former boss of European football, Michel Platini, and the Frenchman also received the same lengthy suspension. The Swiss appealed by taking his case to the Court of Arbitration for sport -- and now awaits a verdict in the case.

So his appeal is being heard in this building in Lausanne, Switzerland. The 80-year-old's punishment came amid the largest corruption scandal ever to hit FIFA. Blatter led the organization for 17 years before he resigned in June 2015 following the indictment in the U-S of several dozen football officials, including former FIFA executive committee members, on corruption charges. His case is not related to those incidents. The Swiss stated his case in August in a marathon legal session. Originally, Blatter was given an 8-year ban, but that was reduced to six, and now he hopes it is trimmed even more. The Court of Arbitration for Sport is expected to hand down a verdict later today.
